TESTIMONIALS
OUR METHOD
-
Some tutors use a classroom-style approach, where a tutor delivers the same lesson to a group of students. While this works for some, it means students receive limited individual attention.
At Wise Bird Tutoring, we take a different approach. Our sessions are not just lectures—they’re conversations. We engage with students personally, adapting to their unique needs and learning styles to ensure they truly understand the material. 100% of the lesson is focused on the one student.
-
We focus on deep comprehension rather than rote memorisation. Our approach helps students grasp core concepts so they can apply their knowledge to any problem, not just repeat answers they’ve seen before.
While memorisation helps a student to pass a specific upcoming test, understanding helps a student in that test and every test.
-
We provide individualised homework to help students practise what we teach. Repeating new techniques throughout the week is great to help students internalise the maths they’ve learnt.
We also tell parents what tasks students have been given in homework, we find this is a handy way to keep everybody in the loop (and maybe enforce completion of the homework too!)
WHY WE’RE DIFFERENT
-
Most tutoring companies are classed as agencies, and the tutors who work there are not employees but independent contractors.
At Wise Bird Tutoring, we do things differently. We’re a small business, not an agency, and all tutors are directly employed. This means:
A Unified Approach – Our team works together under the Wise Bird method, ensuring a consistent, high-quality learning experience for every student.
Long-Term Stability – Since our tutors are employees, students get reliable, ongoing support from tutors who are committed for the long run.
A hassle-free experience – Parents don’t have to navigate independent tutors on their own—we handle everything to make the process smooth, simple, and effective.
-
Among the tutors at Wise Bird Tutoring are engineers, physicists, Dux awardees, 99+ ATAR recipients, PHD students, and gifted teachers.
All our tutors are valued members of the small Wise Bird Tutoring team. This means you get enthusiastic, well-prepared tutors who are fully invested in helping students hit their potential.

FAQs
-
We usually go to student’s houses, but we’re also happy to meet in libraries, public places, etc.
-
Most of us use Zoom, but we’re happy to use whatever platform you prefer. The tutor will have a webcam above a whiteboard or paper to write on and explain maths concepts. Some tutors use a second camera to show their face. The student will have their camera on as with any zoom meeting, and will hold up their working to the camera for the tutor to review after going through maths problems.
-
Absolutely! We tailor our tutoring to suit each student’s unique learning style, including those with ADHD, autism, and other learning challenges. We create a supportive, structured, and flexible learning environment that helps students stay engaged and build confidence. Check our testimonials, we get great feedback on our tutoring for all kinds of students.
We find that for any school student, the parents are the ones who know them and their learning styles best. We like to keep parents in the loop, and we encourage you to tell us what you know will work best for your child.

Yes!

Generally, no. If you want to organise a session for two or three students who are studying the same subject, at the same year level, at the same school for a discounted rate, we’d be happy to talk to you.
We do sometimes organise 2-4 hour maths seminars on specific topics, such as how to perform well in an exam. However these are not tutoring sessions, they are meant to be small classes.

Corvids (the bird family containing crows and ravens) are among the best animals at learning, tool use and problem solving. Although owls are a symbol of wisdom, crows actually are a bit wiser!
Check out this study about crows getting a B grade in a maths test! (Sort of.)
